Everything you need to know about World Cup 2026
By KickoffHQ Media · 18 June 2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest in history — 48 teams, three host nations and 104 matches spread across North America. Here's what makes this edition different.
A new format
For the first time the tournament features 48 teams, expanded from 32. The group stage is followed by an enlarged knockout bracket, meaning more drama and more must-watch fixtures than ever.
Three hosts, sixteen cities
Matches are played across the United States, Canada and Mexico, from the Azteca in Mexico City to MetLife Stadium in New York. The final will be staged in the New York/New Jersey area.
The favourites
Reigning champions Argentina arrive among the favourites alongside a resurgent Brazil, France and Spain. But with the expanded field, dark horses like Morocco and Japan have a clearer path than ever.
Track it all in the World Cup 2026 hub and the live Match Centre.
